Every heart sings a song, incomplete, until another heart whispers back.

Those who wish to sing always find a song. At the touch of a lover, everyone becomes a poet.

— Plato

Plato, b. 5th century BC - Athens, Greece

Plato was born into a wealthy family in ancient Greece. One of the world’s best known and most widely read and studied philosophers, Plato began his career under the guidance of Socrates. Plato’s writings explored justice, beauty and equality. One of his most famous work, the Republic, blends ethics, political philosophy, moral psychology, epistemology and metaphysics. Around the age of 40, Plato founded the Academy in Athens, one of the first institutions of higher learning in the Western world. Together with the works of his teacher Socrates and his student Aristotle, Plato’s writings lay the foundation for Western philosophy and science. He died in Athens circa 348 BC.
