Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate bring you together, but do so with all your heart.

— Marcus Aurelius

Marcus Aurelius b. 2nd century CE - Rome, Italy

Considered the last of the Five Good Emperors, Marcus Aurelius was known as a benevolent and loyal man who ruled Rome with Lucius Verus until 180 AD. Growing up, Aurelius was a dedicated student with a deep interest in Stoicism - a philosophy that emphasizes fate, reason and self-restraint. His sense of duty and good will to his Empire was, presumably, a consequence of his intellectual pursuits and belief in the philosophy. Along with being the Emperor of Rome, he is best known for his intellectual pursuits in Stoic philosophy contained in the Meditations, a series of his personal writings.
